This book, How Does the Show Go On, by Disney's Thomas Schumacher and Jeff Kurtti is a terrific introduction to the theatre from both the on-stage and behind-the-scenes perspective.

* A note about theatre versus theater: The AACT supports the spelling of Theatre, and I agree with that in most cases. I chose the alternative theater spelling for the book to help with editing, mainly keeping things simple between the different usages: "He exited the back door of the theater" versus "He decided to have a career in the theatre".
